MTV's brand new Real Worldesque show, Jersey Shore is getting all tanned, juiced up, and hair poofed for it's December 3rd debut! (Hey, I am just using words from the trailer of the show from MTV!) MTV is touting this show as having the hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos and Guidettes. The Trailer for Jersey Shore has Ronnie, Vinnie, Jenni, Sammy, Mike, Nicole, and of course Paulie, talking about things like hair, tans, juiced muscles, fist pumping like champs, and who started the "hair poof." My favorite line is at the end where one of the guys says, "If hating is your occupation, I probably got a full time job for you!" Story of my life! Also the MTV announcer says, "Get ready or a whole new Crazy." OH I AM READY! Actually I have been ready since True Life: I'm a Jersey Shore Girl aired around 2004 with that girl Dottie! (She looked like Jessica Simpson, I don't care what anyone says!)
Some people are offended by Jersey Shore, saying that it is based on negative stereotypes and bad behavior. MTV recently responded to the offended groups by saying this to Entertainment Weekly:
“Jersey Shore is a reality series that follows eight young adults spending their summer at the beach. The show continues MTV’s history of documenting various subcultures, rites of passage of young people, and the ways they self-identify. The Italian-American cast takes pride in their ethnicity. We understand that this show is not intended for every audience and depicts just one aspect of youth culture.”
OH MTV! You love to bring the drama no matter where you go! I am sure when people started protesting they had a small party to celebrate the media attention. I hope that young people realize that people on T.V. shows like Jersey Shore can only represent themselves. You cannot marginalize an entire group of people based on seven hot messes picked to live in a house or on the shore. When and if I watch Jersey Shore , I will be watching and laughing at the individual people on the show, not at an entire area of a state or group of people.
I leave you with the trailer from MTV's Jersey Shore. Take look and please let me know what you think!
I will most definately be watching. This may be my inspiration to not hide my inner East Coast queen. ;)
