Everyday I get on the Subway in NYC I always grab a Metro New York Paper. For some reason I just like the Metro better than the other papers and I especially love the Entertainment section and "The Word" by Metro writer Dorothy Robinson. Robinson's writing basically feels like a blog but in print form. She tells the reader what is going on in the world of entertainment and then throws in her opinions here and there (I would love to have a column like this in print one day)!
One thing that I like about "The Word" is that Dorothy Robinson prints celebrity Tweets from the day before. A couple of weeks ago Dorothy announced that she will be printing interesting tweets from her readers every Friday and I knew I had to get my tweet in print!
I began Tweeting Dorothy and I was super exited when she Tweeted and followed back because a lot of writers who do celeb columns slash sections in papers can act like they are too good to address their readers for some odd reason. We quickly became Twitter BFF's.
This past Friday, May 20, 2011 I was supper jazzed (I love when people use this word) when I saw that one of my Tweets had been printed in "The Word." For me, getting my Twitter handle printed offline was an awesome accomplishment. Check it out!
Above: The first part says @JonathanValdez gets his wish and then my printed tweet says "My goal is to say something amazing that gets me printed in the Friday Word! #newtwitterbff"
My personal mentor Oprah (heard of her?) always says that your thoughts become your reality and boy was she right! One day I am sitting on the train thinking, "Hmm I totally want my tweet to be in the Metro New York," and the next week I am in it on the same page as one Mr. H to the izO V to the izA (That is Jay Z for those of you who are not aware of the anthem that should be making you get your damn hands up)!
Special thanks to the woman who made it all possible, Dorothy Robinson. Be sure to check out her column slash section of the Metro New York "The Word" every day and stop by to talk to her on Twitter (She is @Dorothyatmetro). Be sure to tell her @JonathanValdez sent ya!
