SXSW 2013: A Golden Experience

This past week I had the chance to go to SXSW with LoveGold to check out the scene and to do some serious gold jewelry spotting on their behalf.  It was an amazing time.  Like the picture says above, we were definitely in the "action zone."

While at the festival I would go up to people to ask them about their gold and I found that most people did not have a problem displaying their treasured pieces proudly.  Everyone seemed to have a story about what the piece meant to them.  They guy above told me that his Grandmother gave him this gold chain and pendant that is a Jewish symbol.  He told me that it was very special to him and holds great meaning.  I asked him why he felt his grandmother chose gold and he said that for him it just felt it was the metal of royalty. It seems that people choose gold as the metal of choice when gifting items to loved ones that can be passed down from generation to generation.

During the trip I was joined by Lauren Kaminsky who is a third generation pawn broker.  She tells me that she wears gold everyday and that she feels naked with out it.  She has a true passion for gold and would genuinely light up when she saw that others were wearing gold.

I was so excited that I got to catch some screenings while I was at SXSW.  I went to the premiere of the film Short Term 12 starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr.  The movie was amazing and Brie and the entire cast did an amazing job.  Another great thing about the premiere is that Brie Larson and her costar Kaitlyn Dever were both wearing gold!  They were also wearing the same designer which they told me they did not plan.

I have always felt that gold was a warm and inviting metal and it seems that it brings out that side in people that I have talked to about their pieces.  It is a metal that means something which is why I think people are making a big return to gold.  People seem to want things that are not just things but that have a meaning and can be passed down.

It is always cool to see guys in gold.  I loved these gold charms combined with a quirky tee and leather jacket. 

Who doesn't love a great combo of gold rings for a night out?  The ring on the pinky was passed down to her from her Grandmother.
