Recently Broadway legend Carol Channing invited Closer Weekly Magazine into her Palm Springs home, giving the magazine an exclusive look inside the cozy retreat she finally calls home after a lifetime spent on the road.
The 92 year old veteran of stage and film may have found a place to lay her head and prized possessions, like Al Hirschfeld art pieces, but she is not slowing down! This year Channing hits the road to discuss the 50th Anniversary of "Hello Dolly!" and many of her other roles at New York City's Town Hall!
Take at look at what the original Dolly Levi told Closer Weekly about her beautiful home along with fun-filled photos!
Carol had no stylist for this photo shoot and paired her sequined Uggs with Chanel and neon pink lipstick showing that you can have fun with fashion and be fabulous at any age!
"I've traveled so much with my cabarets and other shows that I've spent most of my life in hotels!" she tells Closer. "Even in New York, we practically lived at the Regency or the Waldorf. This is the first one that truly belongs to me."
"I like to express myself, and that translates to the house. Everything here clearly expresses my life" says Channing.
The dining room has a large display hutch with Carol's memorabilia as well as a handblown glass chandelier. Carol adds, "Al Hirschfeld's art is key to the decor. Everywhere you turn, his influence is there."
Carol says she rarely uses the kitchen but often hosts neighbors, like fellow Broadway star Kaye Ballard, or guest from out of town, like Chita Rivera and Debbie Reynolds (can OJ&B come). "We sit in the living room, so it's important that they feel comfortable," she says.
I am thrilled to see Carol Channing still living her life to the fullest and looking happier than ever! I had the opportunity to interview Carol a few years ago and she was the funniest and sweetest person. One of my biggest regrets is that the photo that I took with Carol was on a Camera that I lost a few days later and I did not have a chance to upload it to my computer (SIGH)! OJ&B will always love Carol Channing!
