Designer Erin Fetherston found her inspiration for her Autumn/Winter 2014 collection in the legendary Barbizon Hotel. Part
residence, part charm school, the hotel was a destination for young women in pursuit of big city dreams (so many gals in NYC can relate to this). Home to famous mid-century beauties like Grace Kelly, Cybill Shepard and Edith Bouvier Beale, the Barbizon held the promise of who you could become; the possibility of a life more glamorously
lived (love this possibility). Fetherston's collection of refined and feminine frocks is imbued with this same sentiment. A
charmed life awaits, we need only dress the part.
I really loved Fetherson's presentation this season. It truly brought you back to a time when people always cared about their appearance and so many people believed that anything was possible. I love the description that was sent out with in the press release and I think that I am going to make "A charmed life awaits, we need only dress the part" one of my new mantras. I have always said if you dress better, you feel better and when you feel better you give out amazing energy and the possibilities are endless!
Let's check out some close up photos that I had the chance to take while working the room.

Playing on Camelot era codes of feminine dressing, Fetherston works with decadent jacquards, delicate laces and rich textures to create dresses with her signature polish. Elegant gowns are rendered in lush velvet devorés and romantic floral motifs with gilded touches. Cocktail dresses are defined by their statement making skirts, ranging from sleek and slim to flirty and flared. Separates make their entrée by way of illusion; cleverly constructed pop-over tops and exquisitely embellished chiffon tees adjoin bell and ball skirts alike. Bold floral pastiche prints adorn neoprene and silk ottoman, adding a decidedly modern punch to the designer's romantic palette of wintery pastels and dazzling hues of emerald, sapphire, and ruby.
Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE mid-century fashion! There are so many great shapes that are true to the time period in this collection but there are also great fabrics and prints that give it a modern feel. The top that the model on the stool is wearing would look amazing underneath a fab blazer.
I think collar dresses are super fun yet feminine and are a trend for the F/W 2014 runways. The floral print on the model in the back is perfection and can be worn to lots of different events. I obviously was super drawn to the emerald green shimmering dress. It feel like something that Jackie-O would have worn to a glam cocktail party.
This reminded me a bit of a Vanity Fair Hollywood issue cover. The energy in the room was super chic as sounds of people mingling were mixed with the sound of champagne bottles being popped. It was a perfect NYC moment.

Congrats to Erin on another amazing season and thanks for having OJ&B at the presentation!
