Robin Williams
Robin Williams will always have a special place in millions of people's hearts for the way he made us laugh in countless movies that have now become classics. That being said, I think Robin Williams has an extra special place in the hearts of those that were kids of the 90's like me. Aladdin just would not have been the same without Robin voicing Genie and I can still remember watching Mrs. Doubtfire in the movie theatre and loving every moment of it! Who can forget when Mrs. Doubtfire's fake boobs caught on fire and Robin put them out with the lids from the pots? How about when he slams his face into the cake because he didn't have on the Doubtfire face and did the iconic "Whooawhoo!"
Robin was one of those actors where if he was in a new movie then you knew you had to see it. He was an amazing actor and a brilliant comic. One of my favorite things to watch him do was a live television interview. You never really knew what he would say or do and was a crazy little ball of energy and impressions.
How brilliant was Robin in The Birdcage? I remember the previews showing the following clip over and over again which lead me to constantly run around saying, "Madonna! Madonna! Madonna!" At the time that was the only name I recognized from the sequence and I also realized this clip made me Vogue before I really knew what it was.
That is all that I can say right now about Robin Williams. He always made me smile and laugh. Joan Rivers quoted Winston Churchill and said, "If you make someone laugh you give them a little vacation." If that is true (I think it is) then that must be why so much of the 90's seemed like an amazing vacay!
Thanks so much for putting joy in so many people's hearts Robin! You will be missed!
What was your fave Robin Williams movie or T.V. moment? Was it when he was Mork in Mork and Mindy (Nanu, Nanu)? Was it one of the many cartoon characters the he magically brought to life? Loved him in Jumanji or Dead Poets Society?
