Los Angeles based Singer/Songwriter MADELINE (A.K.A Madeline Fuhrman) recently released her latest single "The Mad Ones" and, like most of her songs, it has quickly become one of my favorites! "The Mad Ones" is both haunting and inspirational and reminds all of the dreamers out there to follow their hearts and to not be afraid to make it happen.
I was so thrilled to have MADELINE be a part of OJ&B's "5 Questions With" series. Take a look below and see what makes this "Mad One" tick!
1. You started your singing career 4 years ago. What is the biggest change that you have seen in yourself from day one to now?
MADELINE: I would have to say that now I feel so much more at home on a stage, to the point where I don’t feel like I have to hide behind a piano or guitar, but can move around confidently and sing my songs. I’ve always felt great performing, but only recently do I feel like the music I’m making and the show I’m seeing in my head are coming to fruition. It’s only natural though, the more you do something and work at it, the more comfortable you’ll feel.
2. Your latest single is called "The Mad Ones." Tell me about the inspiration behind this song and why you chose to write about "The Mad Ones."
MADELINE: "The Mad Ones" is such a special song to me because it’s about my decision to not go to college and instead follow my heart and my passion for music. The Mad Ones are the people who are not afraid to fail, the ones who push the boundaries and make the impossible happen just because they believed in their goals and worked towards them. We all have a “Mad One” inside ourselves that we just have to let live! We are only as powerful as we allow ourselves to be, and this song continues to power me through my own struggles of sometimes being afraid to fail; the song reminds me of the bigger picture.

3. What are your goals for this single and for the rest of this year?
MADELINE: I can only hope that people feel my heart and soul in the song, and that they can see themselves in the lyrics and the story. It’s not always easy for me to write lyrics that directly highlight my own unanswered questions, but I think that’s what people want to hear…because it’s the truth. At the end of the day, we all have very similar struggles in accepting ourselves and doing what we think is “right,” but I strive daily to empower others to unleash the “Mad One” in them, because it’s been such a rewarding experience for me.
4. If you could do a duet with anyone who would it be?
MADELINE: That’s so difficult because most of the people I would really want to duet with are no longer living. But with technology these days I’m sure arranging a hologram duet with Ella Fitzgerald or Edith Piaf couldn’t be too difficult...haha.
5. What is your guilty pleasure television show?
MADELINE: Scorpion! I’m such a nerd, so I love all the science and math in the show, and it’s even cooler that it’s based on a true story.
