An online petition helped make the MAC + Selena Quintanilla collection a reality
I am so thrilled and excited that MAC Cosmetics has listened to the requests of thousands of Selena Quintanilla fans and is officially coming out with a collaboration based on the legacy and beauty of SELENAS!
Back in February 2015, an online petition started by Patty Rodriquez of California on Change.org called for a line that would represent Latina women who love make up and MAC. "Selena Quintanilla is an iconic legend in our community... she'd be a perfect MAC girl!" Perez stated in her petition. Over 37,000 people agreed and MAC cosmetics did too!
James Gager, MAC senior vice-president and group creative director, released a statement saying,
"We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies M·A·C’s philosophy." The make up brand has not released any word on what the make up collection will include or what the packaging will look like but there have been plenty of renderings and suggestions online. Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla, will help create the collection (I LOVE THIS IDEA) and said, "I am so excited that MAC Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena. Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made."

As a Latino myself, I know for a fact that many Latina women LOVE make up and LOVE Selena. I have so many fond memories of watching family and friends strategically and flawlessly apply their make up and I am so thrilled that the Latina community and other communities of color will have Selena to look at for beauty inspiration once again. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and I applaud MAC who has a long history of using all types of models in their campaigns for this decision to listen to what the public wants to see.
I can only imagine how the press day for this would be if Selena were alive today. Her speech to the press might go something like this:
"Pues me siento muy orgulloso para estar aqui con todos ustedes y me siento muy....
Be sure to leave suggestions of make up names you would love to see for this collection in the comments below! I would love to see a "Bidi Bidi Bom Blush" and a "Como la Florescent Pink Lipstick" alongside her famous red lip color!
